Response 3 | I would take another DE course just because of convenience not quality. Most DE courses have the same formula for teaching and gets redundant. LCCs DE courses does not offer differentiated learning experiences for students. |

Response 43 | Distance Education provides me a student and a full-time employee with the DOE the opportunity to complete my college coursework. However, there are still a lot of work to be done to improve the program. For example, instructors are oblivious to the processing time of home computers/the internet. In my HWST class, my instructor gave us 10 minutes to complete a map test. In theory, each question would take less than a minute. However, the processing time of computers, the snail pace of the internet and the action required by the student to scroll, check the honor and answer the question takes a minute and 10 seconds. Thus, the student is unable to complete the map test in the allocated time. In addition, IF students are required to meet all deadlines on the submission of coursework. The instructor needs to be held to the same requirement. This past semester was the worst with regards to getting coursework returned. For example, I submitted my assignment for ED 294 6 weeks ago. My instructor just returned it to me for revisions. #areyouserious |

Response 45 | Many of the online classes are well done. I definitely encourage all teachers to use grade book, so that it is easier to keep track of individual grading, and it can push all responsibility on the student to keep track of their grade. Also, one improvement i've noticed from previous classes is the use of the announcements. One teacher used the announcement tool to give students their assignments and due dates for the week. I thought this was terrific. When taking online courses, it is easy for a student to loose track of time and due dates. Announcing all the assignments that will be due at the end of the week or during the week is a great way to overcome the problem of late assignments. |

Response 106 | Laulima is very easy to navigate, although it would be nice if the only accessible courses displayed at the top were the current semesters course i.e. not having to see classes from fall 2015 during the summer 2016 semester. |
Response 107 | It is convenient to take an online class, but I prefer the interaction with the professor and students. I met with instructor during office hours, which was helpful. Since instructor was very slow to return online work, however, I felt anxious not knowing how I was doing. I think the list of assignments and due dates should be more detailed in the syllabus, and not just in assignments as you do them, so you can better organize work and manage time, especially for the group project. I would also have liked to know more about the other students before selecting our group for the project. It turned out quite good, but since we didn't know each other at all, we didn't know whether we could count on other group members to do their share and do a good job. Maybe it would help if we had done our first assignment, introducing ourselves to the instructor, to include introductions to the other students. But I did meet my goal of learning how to more effectively use Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, with the unexpected bonus of being introduced to Google Sites. |

Response 112 | More DE teachers are needed to cover other subjects that are not available at the LCC Waianae campus as I believe that people take them so they don't need to make the far trip to the Pearl City campus. |
Response 113 | I took an on-line business law class at KCC that had weekly video classes that were amazing and helped me to learn things well. I would like to leave this suggestion for other on-line classes as well, especially for classes like economics. Thank you. |

I'm not clear if this is normally a part of Laulima, but I found this tool to be very helpful in at least ensuring that I was exposed to the commands and "normal" behavior of the targeting operating systems when my own version of that OS was not properly functioning. |

Response 202 | Yes, I would take another distance education course, but I would recommend for other students to take ASTR-110 at this moment. The course structure was extremely unorganized, and communication with the professor was late at best. Although I did somewhat well in this particular course only because I went out of the way to fully understand the content, but many of the other students in the class struggled. |
Response 203 | |
Response 204 | anthropology online was tougher than a writing intensive online class. |
Response 205 | |
Response 206 | Not bad, just needed to be more reasonable on how the professor should allow the students tackle exams. It was a bit unforgiving but it did push students to do better. Although there was never any interaction with the distanced professor. Besides that, its a very independ type of learning and students are able to pace themselves. Thank you professors and faculty members, I have graduated. -Roldan Galvadores |

Response 294 | Laulima is generally a good website, all the basic tabs and headers don't change. What I don't care for are the variations that the individual instructors have on the order of which the course tabs are placed on the left-hand side. If they have specific one's like DropBox, all those should put grouped and placed below the general one's like the syllabus and gradebook and such. |

Response 327 | |
Response 328 | Some instructors are great at utilizing the tools in Laulima, but the majority opt to use all kinds of different programs and resources that it's just a whole jumble of things we have to spend and enormous amount of time deciphering. This is extremely discouraging and detracts from focus on the material we need to learn. If there was some kind of standardization and clear organization across classes, the graduation success rate would definitely rise and there would be smarter people out there that excel at the topics they are taught rather than only becoming masters of organization and just "getting by" with the actual material. |
Response 329 | I have taken online courses from 2 other colleges & Leeward's system is by far, the best! Laulima is easy to navigate and I can tell that professors put a lot of time in planning the semester out. |

Response 403 | I am really not one to complain, but there have been some issues... 3 hour english final essay was required to be taken on Laulima,my work was completely lost 2.5 hours into the session due to the website resetting. I manually backed up my work every 20 min or so. If it werent for that, i would have either recieved a B in the course our would have had to make up the entire essay. I submitted an incomplete essay and thankfully scored enough points to still get an A in the class. I am still angry about that despite the A. I was devastated that my work, especially a final exam, was completely lost due to the stupid website resetting itself. Professor Turner was great. It wasn't his fault, but I wouldn't recommend anyone relying on a website to keep their final exam safe as they are working on it. Coincidentally, that was the only occurence of it happening during the entire course, but that was the only time we were required to be on Laulima for such a long time on a single piece of coursework. Next time, I'll start the exam then do my work in a word processor as the clock is winding down, copy and paste to laulima and submit work. I dont recall doing any orientation for laulima. When i started, it was very confusing cause i had no idea what to do or what was going on. The physical campus orientation was horrible as well. It wasnt fun, as much as they tried to make it such. I left campus with a bad impression after orientation. It was nearly pointless cause i ended up learning everything on my own anyway. Financial Aid for 2016-2017 was a very smooth process, however, when i applied in December for the spring16 semester, it was an absolute mess!!! My spouse and i aren't married, we live together with two children. I must have been back and forth with the financial aid office about 15 times. my personal situation really doesnt seem that extraordinary, but no one knew what the hell was going on. one person would tell me to fill out the verification in a particular way, then i would get a call or email saying that there was a discrepancy. I must have spoken to everyone in that office, and every single time i had to explain my situation from the very beginnning. It was a miserable process. Professors should be more proactive with posting and updating grades, or at least accumulated points. It makes a huge difference for students striving for high grades, and in general its just good to know where you stand at all times. Some classes were great regarding this, others were terrible. Overall, the Laulima site and the online program was ok. No issues other than the single significant one that I described above. Leeward admissions staff seems to make an effort to get the student to come to campus for every little thing. the process was so miserably inefficient. I work full time, and i was under the assumption that some of the meetings were mandatory, when in fact they werent. I can recall three separate appointments, of which only 1 was mandatory(orientation). The worst part about it was the fact that there seemed to be no effort to have the student come in for only 1 day and knock out everything. very stressful and inefficient. My first semester at Leeward was great overall, with the exception of enrollment/admissions in general. December '15, the month I enrolled, was the month from hell. |

Response 526 | Instructors should read emails thoroughly to avoid confusion on what's being asked by the student. There should be better attempts to respond timely to the student and not just when someone else has been bcc or cc copied in as a witness to an email. |

Response 529 | I enjoyed taking DE courses. The only issue I had was with Laulima. Too many times my work was erased and not automatically saved or stored when computer glitches occurred. This problem occurred when I was in the mail to site. |

Response 540 | I like the online instruction at Leeward Community College. It makes the student's like me a lot easier. Although online classes are not for everyone, I would still highly recommend taking online classes. |

Response 545 | Thankful for online courses. It allows me to be in school, take care of my kids, and work. It's tough but it is very convenient for my busy schedule. |

Response 554 | The assessment section shouldn't be answered for all DE courses taken by a student for the semester. Each course taken is different and each instructor is different. For example questions 13 & 14 |
Response 555 | I'm sure the online classes at LCC are great but I did not take any. I'd appreciate if you would check your facts before spamming with emails. All of my classes were on campus, NOT online. Thank You |
