Response 29 | I personally am very well at taking online courses since it requires organization, discipline, and planning. However, some students that take online courses but aren’t very organized or disciplined may not like online classes very much. It depends on what kind of students takes online classes. |

Response 64 | I did not like interacting with other students in my Art 101 class, I really don't care what they think. Otherwise the class and professor were excellent. |
Response 65 | |
Response 66 | To make several courses better, professors should be highly encouraged to have their grades updated often. I have gone through several classes not knowing what my grades were until the end of the semester. |

Response 69 | Online courses were not as bad as I thought. I just had to manage my study time wisely. Thankfully, I got an A on my course. |

Response 72 | Erika Molyneux's ART 112 was one of the most organized courses I took this semester. Her modules were so well put together that it made it so easy to know what the expectation for the week was, and what was up coming in the next week. I thoroughly enjoyed working with her modules compared to my other online courses I took this semester, and think it should be the standard for all of UH online courses. In this way students can easily navigate the courses, so more time is spent working on the assignments and learning rather than trying to find what we need to do. She also added weekly video feedback on our work along with video guides for that weeks work. It was an excellent way of supplementing face to face instructional time that you have in a normal class. I took online courses from all over the states UH system and this was by far one of the most organized of them all. |

Response 102 | Love the option of online classes. With working full time through the day, being a full time mom, and wanting to pursue my education... awesome! |
Response 103 | It would be nice if more online courses offered complete learning online. By this I mean not having to go to the testing center for exams. People with families and work have a hard time fitting this into their schedule. |
Response 104 | |
Response 105 | For Phil 110, the exam was always formatted funky. It was not Dr. Stegs fault but if the IT and Development department could work to properly incorporate fill in the blank formats, that would be wonderful. Laulima was rather effective and resourceful. Contacting my instructors were easy as well. :) |

Response 149 | I like the convenience distance learning offers. The mechanism of laulima is somewhat difficult to navigate. I would like to see all distance learning classes offer a uniform framework of UX. I often had to search for updates that came in after the original syllabus was created. One class required us to take an exam during a specific time period. Due to my work schedule, I often do multiple weeks of assignments and exams during a one or two day burst. |
Response 150 | Wasn't sure at first but after first round of experience and online learning dynamics, I am happy to continue. Thank you! |
Response 151 | The course I took began in the middle of the semester in March. At first, it was poorly organized. There was an announcement stating that the course was to take a brief hiatus until the end of March. When it hit that date, there was no further communication regarding the start of the course until the beginning of April. The course content was informative, however, presented on Laulima in a confusing way at times. As soon as the course started back up in April, the instructor was very responsive to my emails and questions. |

Response 157 | The Test Center's hours at LCC should be extended at least until 7pm during the week and/or be open half a day on Saturdays. This will help accommodate DE students who work full-time but need to take a proctored exam. Some professors have recommended transferring/taking the exam at HCC since the campus is closer to my employer. However, I have to pick my son up from school when I get off from work so that alternative is not doable either. |

It was confusing from the very beginning until the very end. |

Response 182 | I had Professor Nguyen for Calculus IV. He did not respond to my inquiries before the class started as I was trying to figure out the format and other pertinent information before school started as this was my first online course and was unfamiliar with setup. He was responsive for about three weeks once class started. However, I have not heard back from him since February 4th and have been operating on my own since then. Additionally, a number of the links to online material that we were suppose to use for learning were broken. Overall, my experience with this class were terrible and made more strenuous due to the inattentiveness of the professor. |

Response 227 | Only if there is a need to take a class that doesn’t exist at my current (home) school campus or offered online. The book and technology used for the course was a bit outdated and if there was a better version provided, it may intrigue me to do more classes that way. All that said, I have one more class to reach my degree and I am happy to have taken a course provided by your staff |
Response 228 | This is not my first time taking distance education courses, however, it is my first semester at Leeward and my first time using Laulima. At my prior school, they used Moodle and I found that program to be very easy to navigate. When comparing this program to Laulima, I found it made keeping up with and being aware of assignments easier. |

Response 270 | I'm very impressed with taking English 200 online with Ms. Chang. It was organized in such a way, that it helped me get assignments and essays done successfully. Laulima has been a good platform for taking online courses and is easy to navigate. |
Response 271 | I would but not SPAN 101, 102, 201 and 202 are junk the instructor is extremely disorganized SHE NEVER uses laulima and this past semester she held two forum groups. They were not surveys, they were current student's planning the professors curriculum for next year. Seriously, if you have a master's degree, plan your own shit, and not have students do the work for you. how effing lazy can you be. |
Response 272 | |
Response 273 | I think taking online classes are a great alternative if you are unable to go on campus and laulima is easy enough to use. There were times when it would not work during hours where deadlines were due and that made everything even more hectic but regardless, I would take more online classes. |
Response 274 | |
Response 275 | |
Response 276 | I enjoyed my online course this semester. |
Response 277 | Yes. But some of the online courses were mostly referring the student to websites and reading but really none of the work designed by the instructor. Really not teaching but referring mostly to reading materials and videos! |
Response 278 | |

Response 280 | |
Response 281 | |
Response 282 | Only for convenience sake. I'll never take an online accounting class with Professor Ota again. She knew of the problems WileyPlus created for the students yet it seems like nothing was done to correct the problem. The number of students that did not return for the second semester spoke volumes. I brought this matter to her attention, that the students were set up to fail due to the poorly designed format and omissions of critical steps. Also, there hardly any chance to check our work because the answers to a majority of the exercises were not provided. Terrible experience all around, ask any of the students, especially those who dropped out or failed. |

You would think that an online course is difficult, but it's only difficult because it challenges you more. Response 321 | Only problem I ran into this semester was multiple professors who use Netlab. I had two classes that were going to use Netlab but my account password didn't work and I have never used Netlab before. Students cannot change passwords on their own, they must inform an instructor and the instructor must inform a Netlab Administrator to change a password and gain account access. I was not able to complete my Netlab assignments because I was not able to get a password change before the end of the semester. |

Response 371 | One instructor was extremely well-organized and clear on assignments with everything listed out week by week ahead of time with due dates and that helped immensely. I could even start and submit assignments early if I wanted to. The other person was a very good face-to-face instructor (for the lab class associated with the online class), however, was not as well-organized and students found it very difficult to know what exactly was due each week (especially because there was also a face-to-face lab and both classes had different assignments and due dates. There were many typos on the syllabus, assignments, and due dates and some of the material, and even the course number used was sometimes a 197 number from when the course had an experimental course number. So it was confusing to identify the correct assignment and due dates. Sometimes quizzes or assignments were posted late. Our group online project was not at all collaborative - two my fellow group members contributed no more than two or three lines and one never contributed a word to the 8-page document I submitted with most of the parts completed (and which they were supposed to complete some portions). Fortunately, we did the assignment in Google docs and the instructor could see how much each of us logged in and worked on the project, so she gave me credit for the portions I completed even though the report was not as complete as it should have been. I enjoyed the class overall, and really learned a lot, but I have a background in the subject. Many other did not, and I think some people might have had a very hard time understanding the online material. I suggested the lab and class should be taught together as a hybrid class, so that the assignments could be more easily integrated into one syllabus, and there could be more time to ask questions and interact to help understand the more complex concepts. But that might not work for some people who were only registered in the online class, and not in the face-to-face lab class. The class has great potential and I hope that the difficulties can be worked out. |

Response 382 | |
Response 383 | |
Response 384 | I've taken many online course during my time at Leeward CC. What I've learned is that the courses that are best are the ones that are easiest to navigate. For example, I had one online class where we had to follow two separate blogs run by our instructor, start our own blog to post papers and follow all of our classmates blogs to read and critique their papers. While the coursework was manageable, what made the course especially challenging was trying to navigate ALL the different websites! I often got confused between the instructor's two websites and it was a challenge finding the syllabus or assignment details. It was a complete nightmare. Compare that to online courses that exclusively use Laulima, Laulima (just to keep resources organized) + a blog (for lectures and interaction), or exclusive use of a blog. Typically, after looking through an instructor's syllabus and online set-up, it's very easy to infer whether or not the class is going to be worth taking. |
Response 385 | DE is not for everyone and, while I prefer them due to the fact that they work better for my busy family lifestyle, there are some courses I feel I better taken in person to maximize the opportunities to engage in discussion about the topics with others. |

Response 390 | My DE class used an additional website called TESTOUT so there wasn't much interaction with Laulima or any other school related websites other than looking at the grade book to ensure the grades from TESTOUT were being transferred over. |

Also, I liked that deadlines were not daily but either weekly or monthly. I also enjoyed working at my own pace and studying from home. I know this survey is for LCC only but I took another online course at KCC and dropped it half way through because of the lack of online- friendlyness. Karen Hastings should not teach online courses if she is unable to embrace tools available to make online learning productive and possible. Snail mail, phone calls during business hours only and 20 year old videos is no way to conduct online learning. I hope you pass this information along. |

Response 493 | I took MATH 232 with Nguyen. It was the worst class experience I’ve ever had. His course is literally other people’s YouTube videos. He did not do ANYTHING for this class. He wouldn’t respond to emails. Even when I was at the testing center the first time to take Exam 1, he had sent the incorrect test information and the testing center, me, and even the math department (I called them) could not get ahold of him. It took days to get this resolved. Not once did he ever return my emails regarding this incident Evan though the math department told me that they spoke to him and he should be contacting me. I obtained an A in the class but I had to essentially teach myself calculus 4 with the book and MyMathLab. He had absolutely no part in my learning. The aggregated videos on his site were on topic but not directly related to what we were learning in the book. I know a student who had to drop the class. He could not keep up. There was no help given by the instructor. I believe the student should be refunded for the course. This course violated so many ethics that I believe that a lawsuit is possible. The fact that the course is other youtuber’s videos means the teaching is plagiarized! Something we would get an F for or even expelled. I hope that same standard is held against the professors. I regularly do online courses so I managed to do well but I can’t imagine how many students could have done better but the course did not give them the tools to succeed. It seems the math department protected him in this case and if their online course continue to go this route then I don’t see many people going to LCC. The same level of courses can be obtained online for free. |

Response 509 | Online is confusing, its easier to have a constant reminder of going to class than to totally forget about your online class. |
